I am a complete linux newbie and i want to set up a linux firewall with Mandrake 8...how do i even freakin start...right now i have 4 comps connected to a switch and they are all sharin a DSL connection..and i want a strong firewall besides my Zone ALarm Pro...also what is the best old hardware to use to build this linux box..i want eveything to be supported right out the box cause i dont know how to recompile

Mandrake 8 has a built-in firewall that can be setup with an easy yes/no wizard in the Mandrake Control Center -> Networking. A little too easy if you ask me, it doesn't give you enough power. But are you talking about a software firewall like this or you want to setup some sort of hardware firewall for your network with your linux box?

If you really want you can find lists of "supported" hardware but I would just get some old parts together, chances are they will work (Mandrake 8 does everything for you).
