Middle clicking should be natural, since it's been around forever now. If you're using an OS where the middle button is less common, try look at some of the tab extensions available for mozilla.
i think you can put some of the options on the toolbar. i have the tab option on my toolbar, so just click it and it opens it in a tab view. i forgot how i did this ... oh mam, am i lazy or what? :laugh:

Yeah but you don't want to open EVERY link in a new tab. You have no way of knowing whether a link will open a new window or not, so you'd have to middle click every link out of paranoia, and that'd be pretty ridiculous.
there is a tweak, ill have to search for it again, i did it to mine. the bummer comes when you have little windows that arent meant to be full screen, sometimes it resizes the whole window, but i have mine opening everything in tabs not windows, keeps the clutter down on my taskbar.
