how to make firefox know the difference between window and popup?

I had to harden the rules for the popup blocker as by default it still allows popups through if you click anywhere on the web page if it blocks one, which is totally retarded. But now when I click any link that opens a new window it blocks it as a popup even if it's a new window, very annoying. can't it know the difference between a popup and a window/tab? Like really. Is there a way to remedy this? It's super annoying. I can't believe no browser out there can stop all popups without stopping user activated windows. It's not rocket science.

It may depend on how the site is coded. In general, acceptable pop-ups are those that are opened as the result of a user action (mouse click or key press). It would help to know what rules you "hardened".

I use Firefox with the following installed:

Google Toolbar Version 6.1.20091119W

AdBlock Plus 1.1.1

Pop Up Stopper Pro V1.80.1000

They are up to a much later version, but the one I have
suits my needs fine.

No problems with unwanted popups. I also set Firefox to Open Links In A New Window. Worst case, I have to right click and manually select "open link in new window" ... Some sites do need to be added to the Pop Up blocker White List so wanted items
get through ok.

I just removed everything. The one that was triggering was click, but see the problem is, say web page A has a popup, firefox blocks it, but if I click anywhere on that page, either a blank area, or a link, it would just let that popup through.

Some popups are also coded into links. Basically I want ALL popups blocked unless in allow list, but new windows allowed (if I clicked on a link).
