How to make fire the traditional way?

Okay, so I need fire. I have no lighters, no matches, and we have a ceramic stove.

Ready?

GO!

Edit: Nevermind, I found a lighter 😀.

Is it a gas stove?

Rip out the gasline, direct it towards a metal surface, and keep throwing rocks at it until it sparks.

well theres the magnifying glass and the sun....

but if its dark....your screwed.

Start rubbing 2 sticks together.... better start now... I hear it takes hours to make one burn.

quartz rock and steel knife should produce sparks when you strike the rock against the steel. if you get a ball of lint from your dryer and place it in a position to catch the sparks as you strike the steel knife you should have the makings of a fire in less than 5 mins. The key is to have a tinder box ready for the lint as soon as it catches a spark. Good luck.

well if you use the spindle method you can get one going in probably 20 mintues or less. It takes some skill and some direction if you've never done it before.

you would need:

1) a bow - a stick about 20 inches long with a string securely attatched at each end so that it resembles a bow for a bow n arrow

2) a plank of wood for the bottom. this needs to be flat so it doesnt move around on you. dry Unprocessed un treated wood is the best.

3) a short stick about 5-6 inches or so and about 1-1.5 inches in diameter. you need to smooth out the sides so it spins easily in between the rope of the bow. Also you need shape each end into a dull point

4) you need another plank to hold in your to press the short stick down on to the plank on the ground as it is spinning. This is to keep the short stick securely spinning in one place on the plank. Using your hand would result in sever pain and a rock would not be stead enough and would degrade the wood.

Place the bow string arond the short stick. place the short stick dull point vertically standing on the wood plank at the bottom. secure the top dull point of the short stick with the second plank in your hand:

======= second plank with pressure applied downward
! < short stick
-!-----------bow string
!
=======plank
----------------------------ground

now you will pull the bow stick back and forther making the short stick spin on the bottom plank. It will begin to "drill" a notch or hole onto the bottom plank. Spinning faster will creat friction and smoke. And black stuff called punkt? This black stuff will accumulate and become red coals. Scoop the red coals into a tinder box and begin to blow.

It's flint, not quartz.

actually quartz works just as well and is much easier to find in the wild than flint. If you want to say I'm wrong fine.....but I have done it myself many many times.
