As of now, i click the internet update, and a window launches and closes after about 15 seconds. It gives me no notification if it has dloaded the latest definitions or not. I tried disabling my firewall but that doesnt change anything. Any ideas?

Click "About AntiVir Guard" and check the VDF file information. If it reads: 6.33.0.89 1/1/2006, then it's up-to-date. If it doesn't, then you're back to square one for the time-being.

I checked through all the options, I do not think there actually is an autoupdate function.
I really more and more regret installing antivir over AVG, maybe I will move back soon.

Auto Update isn't exactly "auto" at all. It only works once you manually click "Start Internet Update"; rather than clicking start it will automatically begin the update process. Basically, it only saves you one click. :p

Go download the 7.0 Beta. That actually autoupdates by its self. I've been using it awhile and like it alot more than 6.

1) Under "file" select "Start Anti vir Main Program"

2) Select scheduler and choose options such as "insert+"

3) Slap self on forehead for missing this before.

There was a problem with my 7.0 Beta installation so I decided to wait a bit more. Supposedly the beta has been updated since my little issue though.
