DREAMCAST deserves to go down as the best console since SNES. The games are awesome, the setup is sweet, the analog triggers on the controllers are dope, 4 controller ports, 1gig capacity per disc, online strategy in place... This thing knows how to do business.

I seriously believe it is better than the PS2, even though the PS2's games will be better due to sheer power, in essence, the Dreamcast was the more rounded machine.

This is the one thing I don't like about the dreamcast. I think the controller for it down right sucks. I like the playstation controller much more. It's still a great system though.

I have a DC and about 80 games for it. I don't think most of the games are that great. Most look real good but I think the PSX has better gameplay on most of the games. If the DC survives for a few more generations of games maybe they will get better. Will have to wait and see.

EDIT: oh yea...the controller kinda bites also. Would like to know who came up with the "cord out the bottom" idea :)

Virge how'd ya get 80 games? ;) One thing for sure is the dreamcast rules all when it comes to sports and fighting games. I only use my computer to play FPS games, other than that, I feel consoles take the cake.

The controller is lacking....
And as far as games go, I was all set to buy a DC then I started looking for games to buy with it - and I found nothing! There's no games as of yet that spark my interest... Fortunately that's something that can change

DC is a good console, and has some really great games. Like every other console it has its fair share of poor games as well. The control sucks for fighting games, but for racing games like Crazy Taxi it kicks ass. We'll see how it fares against the PS2, personally I think the PS2 will be lacking in the quality title department for a long time after launch.

I think so too, which bums, because I was excited about it.

But you know what? A PlayStation 2 will be worth buying simply to play Metal Gear Solid 2 and Gran Turismo 3. I cannot wait for those games. They will be sweet.

I have a Dreamcast but dont like it compared to My PSX. Just there are not that many of the type of games i play on consoles for the Dreamcast. I Primarily play RPG games and PSX has a hell of a lot of them :) Im not bashing one or the other here so no flame wars. Anyone want to buy my Dreamcast? Practically brand new email me :)

I have heard at least two software company complaining that its extremely hard to port games into DC claiming the code is difficult to write.

(well, on the good side, its probably DC is too HQ :) )

I personally think the PS2 is the N64 of this generation. I agree, DC is a great system, and I wish Nintendo and Sega were still the only companies making consoles. Nintendo still knows how to make consoles, they just made a few mistakes with N64.

These mistakes(hard to develop for, carts, royalties) smacked Nintendo in the face, and they learned from them. You just watch.

Sega is smart. They come out with a great machine about a year BEFORE the competition. Then while Nintendo, Sony, and MS duke it out with each other, they can bring out their next generation machine about a year after those release.

Smart? *laughs* The Saturn comes to mind. And how smart is it to abandon the DC, what, 2-3 years after its released? BTW, didn't they state the DC is their last console? The DC is great and all but its hurt by the fact that some people are holding off on buying it because those people know bigger and better things are coming within that year.

I don't agree with the PS2 having better games because of sheer power. That's like saying I can do it better because my boink is longer than your.

Um, you do know that Sega already said that the Dreamcast will be the last console they produce, right?

Yeah Rickr, we saw how well that plan worked with the Saturn...

I like the controller, to tell you the truth. The VMU is the most awesome innovation around. Resident Evil, you have a life bar on your controller. NFL2k 2 player, you can choose plays on it so your opponent cannot see. What a sweet idea. The analog triggers make the DC the hands down best for racing games. The button and stick placement are perfect. My only gripe is the cord out of the bottom, and, in some cases, not enough buttons.

The DC is an system.. but the titles are lacking.. and honestly.. i still like my PSX over the DC.

and i really really hate that controller... big UFO thingy..... i like something small that i can grasp.. nothing like the DC controller....

VMU well.. i could say it's a improved "pocketstation" from the PSX.. but.. i'll leave it.. since.. it may start something ;)

the PS2 has ok launch titles... like SSX, Madden2k1, NHL2k1, UT, TimeSplitters, to name a few that have actually caught my eye... and with the "mod" chips... i can play all my old PS1 games at a higher resolution..

I have a DC myself.. and "many" games... but.. none have really got me playing for days.. like the current PSX game i'm playing : Parasite Eve II

and Seph_IX: (this is my opinion)

1/ DC is hands down winner in graphics for now.. but the best overall console had to be the PSX so far due to it's installed user base.
2/ Games are not Awesome.. they are good... well.. some of them at least.
3/ Setup is just like any console out there.
4/ Controller is my gripe (read above).. i couldn't care less where the analog is.. but i like the psx one.
5/ 4 controller ports is a null point.. we've argued about this before.. demographics lead it to have 2 ports for the PS2 where if you "really" do need more, then you have a option of buy 1 or 2 Multi-taps for up to 8 player carnage.
6/ DC - 1 GIG... PS2 = 5.6GB... Cube = 1.5GB i think... has no relevance to this topic :)
7/ Online strategy is only in place cuz they had a head start from all the rivals.. but the pricing and rebate... well... i really dunno how many will actually "fork" out the dough for internet gaming on the DC via modem.

The PS2 system is a system that grows as time goes on.. where developers figure out the system.. the games will be better and more innovative. and also since PS2 is headed towards a Home Entertainment direction.. there is countless expandability possibilies for the PS2.

Grandia 2 looks like a winner.. and Phantasy Star Online... and hopefully Shenmue

There are good RPGs coming, don't worry. Eternal Arcadia got like straight 9's from Famitsu, and Grandia 2 got 8's and 9's. Phantasy Star Online is coming too, which looks awesome.

So the RPG's aren't here now, but they will be by the end of the year, early next year.
