I have Comcast internet w/ a dynamic WAN IP. I have the cable modem connected to a belkin router.
Is there any way to look up when my WAN DHCP lease expires without having to wire around the router.

First read the Belkin manual.

Then log to the Belkin Menus, and check the entry for automatically obtain a lease (or some thing like this). Once it is done you never have to worry about it. The Router will renew the lease when it expires.

Jack - It doesn't sound like he's having trouble getting it to renew automatically. He probably has some server application that he uses which stops working everytime the IP address changes. He probably wants to know beforehand.

Is this right, FrankSaucedo?

LOL is it is so it is very "simple".

Download this application:Tell me My IPs.

Write a script (or batch file) that executes this proggie every 10 min. Put in the script a copy and compare variable that calls Foghorn.wav. If the External IP changes you would know Load and Clear.:music:

The Belkin box doesn't tell you that already in its status page?

All the belkin status page tells me is my WAN IP address. What i am desperately trying to find is when the dhcp lease expires.

Well, you could put a hub between the cable modem and the WAN port, and sniff the traffic with Ethereal while releasing and renewing the lease...

Most Routers would not even have such an Entry since many ISPs do not clearly providing this info. and a lot of times change it at random.

PPPOE DSL always acquire new IP when you log ON, and if you leave it 2/47 On usually will renew it every few days.

Cable might vary from few days to few months.

My Cable IP some time changes every few weeks sometime remains the same for 3-4 months, regardless of whether I switch every thing Off and On.

If it very important to you call your ISP ask for info and if such info is available.

Which cable modem model do you have? You could try logging on to the cable modem's web management interface and seeing if the information is available there. I have a Motorola SB4100 and I seem to recall seeing DHCP lease information in one of the pages. Unfortunately, I don't remember what the IP address is for the cable modem interface...I want to say it was something like 192.168.100.1, but I'm not sure. Do a google search and I'm sure you'll find it.
