How to look for apartments in Chicago?

So far, I'm using Chicago Craigslist, and the phone: I used to have no problems living on campus since there's only 4~5 offices, but Chicago's too damn big . . ..

I'm living with my folks in the 'burbs for now, just in case you're wondering.

I'm hopefully looking to live in the city, or the north/nothwest/western burbs if possible. Anyone care to give me tips on other leads/what to look for/what neighborhoods to avoid?

I don't know how far CrackaAss CrackaVille is from Chicago, but if you live close enough, I'd recommend chosing one or two neighborhoods you would like to live in, and drive/walk around finding "For Rent" signs.

I lived in Lincoln Square/Ravenswood, and it's a really nice/quiet part of town, and close to the Brown Line. Other places I would recommend would be Wrigleyville, Bucktown, or parts of Andersonville.

Lincoln Park area

I'm not from Chicago but my buddy lived there and I went and visited him. Great area of town with lots of young vibrant people. Close to the Zoo and waterfront. Close to downtown, close to WrigleyVille.

Absolutely a great place if you are going to be working in downtown.

Oldtown, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, River something or other. I lived in East Rogers Park for 10 years, worked in the Loop, worked in Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park.
Lincoln park was a bit pricey back then, probably still is.

I've been finding and looking at places thru Craigslist. Hopefully I'll be moving next week. Looking mostly around I-90 and Montrose.
