How to lock display resolution in win2k?

I googled this and wasn't able to find anything so thought i'd throw the question up to you smart anand type people. Is there a way to lock down a user's ability to change the windows dispaly resolution through the properties menu. We just got some new workstations with win2k and 17 inch flat screen monitors here at work, and the native res is 1280 x 1024. This makes things a bit too small for some people so they bump the res down to the 1024x768 range, and we need to find a way to keep them from doing this.

Thanks guys and gals,

Allen

Because it's an LCD. They have a fixed resolution and putting the res any lower causes it to scale badly.

can you expand on that canterwood? I figured out how to remove it for EVRYONE, but i'd like to keep it there for admins and remove it for everyone else

You need to edit the ACLs on the Group Policy object so they don't apply to the Admin accounts. This can only be done with if you are in an Active Directory Domain or and NT Domain.

I'd like to recommend that you let your users modify their resolution. Even if the native res of the LCD panel is 1280x1024 what's the big deal if they use a lower res? Does the LCD not scale it up to take up the whole screen? Some users will need a lower resolution so they can see (bad eyes, personal preference, etc).

Taking away this kind of control from a user generally makes them irritable. And an irritable user is unhappy and more than likely to be less productive and complain more. This is just a recommendation coming from personal experience. Just my 2 cents on that subject.

I'm with Mike. Let the user decide if something is ugly or not. If they know enough to change the display resolution, they'll know enough to change it back if it doesn't look good. As long as it's not going to cause technical issues, let users make choices when they can.

If you must....You can use this

You can alter an existing profile as well as the default user profile for future users. Should be the NoDispCPL option.
