I'm trying to install Linux (My first crack at it) on an old system that only allows bootup from the HDD or FDD. So, the object now is to get the CD-ROM drive to work in DOS (seems simple enough right? but I've never had to do it bofore.) I know I have to have the driver for the CD-ROM drive, and MSCDEX, but I don't know how the autoexec or config files ar whatever else I need to load these drivers should look like.

Try the floppy boot/install disk for your linux distro or use a standard generic DOS bootdisk (such as one from bootdisk.com.
