
Having a Mac for the entire household is a great idea and can really help children with various educational tasks or otherwise. However, we all know how children can get addicted to an app and even certain apps are not meant for children but end up in their hands. As a responsible parent, it is up to you to ensure that your child stays away from any app that would have a negative impact on him. So, follow these simple steps below to learn how to limit the use of an application on Mac OS X.
Step 1
Open the ‘System Preferences’ Window
Go to the menu bar at the bottom of the screen and click on the tab titled ‘System Preferences’.

Step 2
Open the ‘Parental Controls’ Tab
In the ‘System Preferences’ window, you will notice an option named 'Parental Controls', click on it.

Step 3
Create an ‘Account’
If you don’t have an account set up, you will be required to do so. It can be done pretty easily by providing an age group meant for the parental control actions along with a username and a password.

Step 4
Find the App List
Once your user account is created, you will be able to set the limit for the apps. In the parental control window, click on the ‘Apps’ tab and you will find an option titled ‘Limit Application on this Mac’.

Step 5
Limit the Usage for Required Apps
Click on the 'Small Drop-Down Arrow' next to the ‘Other Apps’ option and tick the box(es) next to the app(s) you want to disable for the child user. This will make the limitation effective immediately.
