How to leave a numeric page...

I just called a number and a voicemail picked up with a message saying to "Leave a numeric page".

When the message stops do I just punch in my phone #? Cause that's what I did.
 
This time after the beep typed 1, then area code + number and then pressed #. Soon as I did that it said "Thank you for calling" and gave me some beeps.
