How to "kill" port that are OPEN

Greetings to all-

Anyone out there know how to "kill" or "close" ports that are open when using TCP/IP protocol? I know how to "see" what ports or open (you can use NETSTAT to find that) but how do you close the ports. I would rather use one of the command that come with WIN98 INSTEAD of downloading some utility. I would think there must be some "undocumented" command out there that would allow me to accomplish this task. Thanks for the help in advance.

Disable the service or application this opened this socket?

Check you serivces file by seaching for "services" no extension. Probably in windows directory.

The service IS NOT BEING opened by any of my applications, this is why I am concered. I will take alook for this file though out of intrest. Thanks

gotcha, what is the port number? Are you trying to disable the damn cable modem snoopers?

Yep, that is what I am up to. There is a certian program "that everyone uses" that hackers have found a way into other users computers. What else is new??? Right now I'm at a site that will check to see what ports are "open" from the outside. Right now it looks really good so I can't blame my firewall. It appears that a certian application may be the culprit here. Here is what the site said about my firewall (which is Novell Netware 5.0 running BorderManger 3.0 with NAT). Now I'll run the rouge program and let run this test again. I'll let you know the results later.

If all of the tested ports were shown to have stealth status, then for all intents and purposes your computer doesn't exist to scanners on the Internet!
