How to keep the network printer IP static?

My home setup is as follows:
- Comcast cable
- 2 Desktops - connected via cable to router
- 2 laptops - wireless connection
- 2 other laptops on occasion.
- Konica minolta 2300 DL networked printer - connected via cable to router
- Brother MFC3820 all-in-one (network ready) - currently connected(USB) as stand alone to 1 PC
- Linksys router WRT54GS - configued or Automatic DHCP

The Konica printer works fine and is connected via a standard TCP/IP port which is currently configured to 192.168.1.104 as assigned by the router.

If I power the modem & router down and power up again the printer gets assigned a different IP address and I have to go to each computer to configure the port with the new IP address.

Is there a way I can assign a static IP address to the printer so that it does not change?

Thanks

Most nework capable printers have an internal configuration utility that will allow you to change the printer's TCP/IP setting from DHCP to static. Check the printer manual to find out exactly how, but you'll want to set the internal IP address to something in your subnet that would not otherwise be used by the DHCP server. Something like 192.168.1.200 would work.

I believe that with the new Alchemy firmware, your Linksys should be able to do DHCP but assign the same IP each time to all your devices based on MAC address??? Or you could do what Fardringle suggests and assign an IP to your printer.

I have changed the IP address on the Printer to 192.168.1.200 and disabled DHCP through it's setup interface. But have not powered down the modem/router yet to see if it works, although I'm assuming it will.

What is this Alchemy firmware you mentioned?

Thanks both of you for your replies.
