How to keep my iTunes song ratings after reinstalling Windows?

I wish to reinstall Windows, but love my song ratings and play counts.

What do I do? I have tried keeping the .itl file, the it got replaced the last time by iTunes.

I have an iPod. Using programs to reimport the songs doesnt give me back the playlists etc.
I am using a secondary partition on my HDD to keep the music during reinstall.

ok... back up the folder where it is stored, get everything.

When you reinstall Windows, go to reinstall iTunes, update it, all that jazz... then quit iTunes, copy the folder back to where it should be, and open up the iTunes Library file from within the folder, don't launch itunes via Start Menu. I seem to remember that working for me in the past.

Doesn't iTunes create some sort of data file when it is installed.

Perhaps go into the iTunes Music folder, copy those configuration files somewhere safe, then paste them into the iTunes Music Folder after install (may have to delete or overwrite default new one created).

Use the iTunes backup feature to DVD. It'll restore with ratings intact.

You can backup the XML file with the ratings as well.
