How to keep my doggies warm?

I've got 2 German Shepards at home and its pretty cold outside right now. Not super cold. Near Austin, TX.

It's actually my parents house. My mom said shes tried to put blankets in there but the younger one just pulls em out and rips them to shreds.

Anyone have any idea of how we can warm up these dog houses? One is an iglo with seems to be the preferred place of rest and the other is a larger rectangle plastic deal.

Any suggestions?

is it below 0?

up here in Durango CO I have my dog sleeping on/in one of my old down sleeping bags. he doesnt care... then again he was used to -30 in Gunnison where I used to live.

The household is the type that doesn't allow dogs inside?

I better not even hear that you're dog lovers.

meh yea, its a recipe for mental dogs. dogs are pack animals, banishment outside ain't kewl.

Take a blanket and hang it over the dog house opening. Cut a slit or two vertically, so they can get in and out easily. They'll keep each other warm and be fine.

They are fine outside. They won't freeze. I just checked my 5 dogs, they're all in their houses, warm and comfy.
It's 32 degrees here.

Make those walls a bit thicker so that their body heat stays inside a bit better. Put some blankets over them... some old carpet padding, whatever you don't mind being ruined that can hold a bit of heat in.

I had a friend who put a lightbulb inside his cat's outside cathouse, with a cover painted black. It would keep it mostly dark but the lightbulb being on constantly created some extra warmth. I'd worry of a fire or something, but if you don't suck with electricity it may work.

Also, go with the flap over the door idear.

If things get too cold (below freezing) move the whole house to the garage with a small electric space heater. Just make sure no coils are exposed.

But one good piece of advice I can give is to give an anonymous call to a non-radical animal shelter/rights organization and ask them for advice. Use a call ID block or call from a work phone or something. I've heard stories of organizations stealing the dogs in the middle of the night.

Heck, I can turn off the heat in my house and my dogs would keep ME warm... all 3 sleep in the bed with me. (130 pounds, 80 pounds, and 40 pounds)

That is awesome. I wish I had more space so I could get another. All I have is one and she always balls up so that she is against me so I get a little warmth. It is amazing how hot they can get. When she balls up, she will be warm to the touch even when it is cold inside.
