There is a link at the end of the sticky in this forum about how to join, but the link isn't working, and I want to get cracking!

Join the Team AT:
  • Download, install and register the UD Agent.

Choose the Cancer Research Project:
  • Go to your own Member Home Page > member services > my device manager > device profile > check the "United Devices Cancer Research Project, Phase II" (uncheck the PatriotGrid).

Nice to hear that you want to join the Anandtech UD team! :)

Since our top producer left a while ago, we can use all help possible!

Can I already welcome you to the team? (stats won't show you until tomorrow..) ;)

if you did it wrong, you'll be researching Smallpox or some such thing. :) I prefer helping w/ the cancer project, personally.

Welcome aboard, Skoorb.

I set my profile up and set all devices to it, but then I started the app and it was not an included device, since it was new, so the first block was smallpox, but I've set it now that cancer should be the only target. I have 3 years of CPU time in UD, no later than a year back, but I stopped when they moved to smallpox because I care little about it, and I didn't know you could still do cancer. My Barton 2900+ is cranking away!

Nice rig! :Q
Like everyone else I'm also doing cancer only..

unfortunatly, the points system really s*cks for me.. I've got an A64 3000+ which only gets like 150 points!
That's only because of my network (wireless) which has a little lag.. I only get a score of 40 for that one.
On a good day, I get about 60 points for network so my total points will be around 170! The network
thingy is weighing much to heavy, cause the project doesn't care about bandwith.. I do get a CPU score
of 236 :D

Happy cruching Skoorb!!! :)

Why do they score based on network card anyway? Since the client grabs a chunk of data and works on it, shouldn't score be based on processing time only...? Also, how does upping the hardrive space help?

Well, United Devices did a few other projects as well..
On this page, at the bottom, there are 2 projects inactive.
One of those two needed lots of bandwith, that's why it also counts in the score. But the thing what I don't
understand is why the network calculates for the biggest part of the score! I'm hoping for a new client this year..

Points distribution per category:

Processor: 40%
Memory: 25%
Storage: 5%
Network: 30%

then why 30% if projects which utilize that connection haven't run for severall years? ;)
I registered a new device and put it on my dial-up connection.. It got the same scores as when
connected through my DSL (2mbit/1mbit) connection!
Only conclusion I have is that I should move to the US as close as possible to the UD server! :D

For some reason the client running on my home computer has decided to use my firewire port as the connection it counts for the network section. Stupid thing, I even have the firewire connection disabled and it chose to count it. Oh well. :) Let's hope for a new client soon.
