How to jailbreak brand new iPad?

I just got one and according to iTunes, it's running iOS 3.2.2 (7B500). I haven't updated yet. I used limera1n to jailbreak my iPhone4, but I hear redsn0w supports a never version of iOS? So what do I use to jailbreak?

P.S. I'm heading to Asia for a few months in 2 days and I heard that iOS 4.2.1 might not work with carriers there? What do I do?

Limera1n will jailbreak 3.2.2 iPads. There's no untethered jailbreak for 4.2 yet.

I don't mind tethered, but I just really want iOS4 - 3 blows cuz of no multitasking, etc. So should I update to 4.2.1 and unlock with limera1n? And what about the warning I posted above about "unofficial carriers" - what the hell are those and will I have an issue in Thailand?

no dude. 4.2.1 jailbreak is beta. much doesn't work. do not want.

you will use 4.2.1 straight up if you have shsh blobs only for 4.2 otherwise stick with 3.2 if you have SHSH blobs.

sorry. I Paid $50 extra for my ipod from amazon.com. why? so i could have a unit with 4.1 and SHSH blobs for 4.1 .

watch musclenerd and comex twitter for news when the 4.2.1 will be out. i spose 4.3 will be out pretty soon lol. so maybe those guys should wait.

Ok I just jb'd with limera1n and 3.2.2. How do I get Cydia?

Are we expecting working 4.2.1 this week?

Also, can I put a sim card into my iphone 4, turn on tethering and use the internet on the ipad with bluetooth?

folks are confusing jailbreak with unlock.

jailbreak = run homebrew/unsigned apps

unlock = use any sim card.

you can unlock and not jailbreak ; you can jailbreak and not unlock. you can jailbreak and unlock. depending on the device and ios and shsh blobs.

do not jailbreak if you do not have blobs to restore back to that o/s.

???

As far as I know you have to jailbreak in order to unlock anything.

They're different. Unlocking means allowing the device to access different networks with the SIM card. Jailbreaking means getting root privileges on the iOS. Apple officially frowns upon jailbreaking and prohibits it in its terms of use, even though it's legal. Whereas Apple officially allows you to unlock phones for a fee, though it's possible to do it for free.

I know what the difference is, but I didn't think you could get an unlock working without first jailbreaking. I guess to get the FREE unlocks working you have to have it jailbroken. I've helped friends unlock their phones and we've always had to jailbreak first, or at least jailbreaking was part of the unlock tool.

Not in the US. The only way to unlock an iPhone here is to jailbreak first.

OP: To summarize, you want to jailbreak your iPad running 3.2.2 using limera1n. Good luck!

Seriously? Gosh. I never knew that.

We can get it unlocked here without jailbreaking, but as I said it costs money. I don't know about free unlocking though. Given what you said, it may require jailbreaking after all, even here.
