how to install xp clean with no os

would like to know how to install xp from a clean install...i looked for some how to make boot disk but did not see it. can someone give me the break down in dos on how to do the install?

boot from the cd and it will help you with the rest!

go into your system's bios (reboot and hit del for F1 or whatever) and go to the boot order section and cd cd-rom to first

if your bios doesnt support booting off the cd..
(get a new motherboard!) or you can make a win98 boot flopy, boot from it with cd support, go to the cd drive and run the setup

edit.. something like:

Windows 98

A:> e: (whatever your cd drive is, win98 makes a virtual mem drive after C: called D:, then the cd rom drive next
E> setup (not sure if that works on the xp cd but it does for all previous ms os's.. i always just boot from the xp cd though)

If you cannot boot to the Windows XP CD (usually only on an improper copy, or not supported in BIOS) you first need to boot the computer with a boot disk that loads SmartDrive and CD-Rom support. Once you are at the command prompt put the XP disk in the CD-ROM switch to that drive and got to the :\I386 directory of the XP CD and then type - winnt. The XP installation proccess will then begin.

You can also run the XP setup from the OS you are running now. You will be asked if you wish to upgrade (recommended) or do a new install. Do the new install and make sure you check the 'custom' box so you can tell XP where to install. When prompted choose the partition that your current OS is on and format NTFS. You could also choose a different partition and do a dual boot
