Wow, second tech support question in my first day of signing up...

My buddy just got a new Dell d8400 and im going to wipe it clean and install a fresh copy of XP pro. Only problem the only HDD is SATA which of course isnt detected by the windows disc upon install. So, as usualy you hit F6 to specify the correct drivers. Only probably is it asks you to insert a floppy disc, which is something computers dont seem to come with anymore. So what am I supposed to do?

I was screwing around with it and I somehow got it to ask for me to insert a CD-ROM in place of where it used to say floppy. I put in a disc provided by dell that I thought would have the SATA drivers but it did not. I went back into the current installation and found the DRIVERS folder that Dell likes to provide now and copied it to CD. Then i went back into the setup mode hit F6 but now no matter what I do I cant get it to ask for a CD-ROM disc, just a floppy.

Anyone have any ideas?

Make sure SATA drive is the set as the FIRST BOOT device.
Also, you need to WIPE the drive before re-installing.

Note: keep the DELL Diagnostic partition, it will be usefully later when it breaks
