How in the world do I install Windows 7 on a computer with USB 3.0 ports? Specifically the Acer ATC-711-EB51 desktop. I spent the whole afternoon yesterday and today trying various methods and I still can't get it working properly. I've followed various guides and none. I even went as far as using the internal DVD drive and while Windows 7 finally installed, Windows 7 won't recognize any USBs because they don't have the USB 3.0 drivers installed. I've tried plugging the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 flash drive into the USB 2.0 ports as well but still no go. I know it's not a storage driver issue because it can find my SSD and HDD no problems when I install Windows 7 via the internal DVD drive. It's just that I can't actually get any further afterwards because the USB ports don't work until I install the drivers.

Right now I have my keyboard plugged into one of the USB 2.0 ports and have "emulate PS/2 keyboard and mouse" enabled in BIOS. It's the only way for the keyboard and mouse to work.

The error message I get during the Windows 7 is the following:

Try, with another working PC, to download a Linux LiveUSB ISO ( www.linuxmint.com ), and search for "Rufus", to put the ISO onto a USB stick. Then, boot that USB stick in the Win7 PC without working USB. Linux doesn't have that problem, and will be able to download the USB3.0 drivers from the mfg web site, into a directory on the Windows filesystem. Then just reboot back into Windows, and run the drivers.

There is two ways to go about this

1 - Install it from a dvd and do what VitualLarry Said, boot up into a LinuxLive to download the drivers to the computer and then reboot back into windows and then run the USB driver setup and that way you now have usb 3 support

2 - Recreate the install media with USB 3 drivers integrated. This will require you to re-install windows and needs another machine to create the usb install media
2a - Create a usb install media with your tool of choice
2b - For doing it manually -- This guide should help http://codeabitwiser.com/2014/03/how-to-install-windows-7-with-only-usb-3-0-ports/
2c - Once added the drivers to the boot.wim and install.wim, copy those files back to the usb drive
2d - Should be able to boot form it now and install windows again and should have usb support once done

Alternatively if you have trouble with the guide above, both asrock and intell have utilities that would do the same thing

Asrock - http://www.asrock.com/microsite/win7install/ -- take option c
Intel - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility
