How do u install a windows95 operating system on a 15gig HD when you can only format 2gig at a time due to non-large-disk support?

i don't have a win98 cdrom...i just have the upgrade to win98 so i have to install 95 first then to 98 but i want one parition when 98 is being installed.

How can i achive this?? any ideas?

Hello,
If you have a Windows 95 Companion CD you can use the Windows 98 upgrade right away without installing 95 first. That is the method I went by went I only had the upgrade CD. I hear that other CD's can be used for the Windows98 Setup's software detection as well. Anyone know of any?

hmmmmm well, you can make one, 2 gig partition, install Win95, then upgrade to win98. then use the drive converter in system tools to convert the drive to FAT32. I haven't tried this, but eitherway you can make a 13 gig partition then with the rest of the drive.

this will actually be good place to stop, if anything. having the OS and nothing else on one partition is cool because it makes doing a reinstall MUCH easier 🙂

That's a good idea if you don't have the Companion CD.

May I also recommend BeOS? The Personal Edition is free and very good.

BeOS is a multimedia OS. It can be made to look like Windows a little bit, but it's not compatible with the software, etc. It's like the Mac OS to Windows. But it is better than the Mac OS. It's also a lot easier to get into than Linux.

really? thats awesome!!

so i just try to install win98 first? and it will ask for the cd...

i never knew i could i could do that ....gotta try it...

thanx!
maybe i'll install BeOs also...where do i get it?

no no no, what kinda advice is that to give to someone who asks a question like this post?

falconx88: BeOS is an experimental operating system targeted at people who with multimedia and such.....it still blows compared to anything else regarding hardware/software/anything-support.....don't bother with it 🙂

I ahve always wanted to try Be or maybe Linux...Don't wanna have to use FDISK and I don't wanna buy Partition magic...any possible way for me to take a gig or 2 off one of my partitions to use for Be? Also, I am already dualbooting win2k and win98, if i do this will Be be added to the menu?

You know, depending on what version of Win95 you have, installation should not be a problem. If you have Win95B or C, then that has support for large hard disks and FAT32.

Per the two previous messages, you *WON'T* get more than 2Gb partitions with Win95A. No ifs, ands, nor buts.
