How to install theme on phone

I have a samsung galaxy S2, international version(i9100). I downloaded a theme i liked and have the .apk on the phone(i believe its .apk anyways, some kinda theme file). I downloaded it onto the phone with opera and its saved in th download directory, i even checked by hooking phone up to PC the file is definatly on the phone.

How do i install this onto my phone, i cant find a option to load this apk file anywyere?

Forgive me im a smartphone newbie.

The theme's probably for a certain rom, it's possible it's for metamorph, which is free on the market. Not saying it can't be done, but I have yet to hear about installing a theme via an APK on a vanilla Android phone without a custom rom or metamorph.

This is possible. This means i need to root phone?

I could not find that option in settings.

I have the stock samsung file browser.

Yes you do.

You have to root and add a custom rom. Those custom icons works only with a couple of certain roms, make sure they're compatible

Yeah I think you need to be much clearer on what you are themeing too. You can install a themed keyboard for example with just a apk file. You can theme a launcher with the launcher directly like Go Launcher. If you are themeing everything typically those are done with CWM etc by flashing them on a supported ROM.

Roger, this is my first smartphone i will have to do some more research. I have been informed by the apk maker that this will not work with my version of android anyways as i contacted their support.

Looks like i need to keep looking.

This is possible. This means i need to root phone?

More than that you need to find out which rom the theme's for. Simply rooting won't let you install the theme. It's very well possible the theme's for a rom which isn't even for your phone.
