I have 2 sticks of EDO RAM SIMMs 72 pinn 64 megs @ 60 ns. I have tried sticking the two sticks into my motherboard.. and the motherboard doesn't seem to recognize the RAM. Do I have to do some special configuration for my pentium to recognize the RAM?

PLEASE HELP!!

You may be out of luck. Thats alot of ram for a board made back then. If the board supports sdram as well as edo, try removing the sdram stick(s). Most boards made back then could do one or the other, few could do both.

good luck

You shouldn't have to do anything special to recognize them. First, does the motherboard support 64meg modules? I know alot would take 32meg but not 64meg sticks. Do you know for certain if the sticks work? They have to be used in pairs on Pentium machines so they should be the same size, speed and make. Does any of it register at all? What type of mobo and model is it?

Make sure that the two SIMMs are inserted into the same bank, and that they are well seated and clipped.

What generation of board is it? What is the chipset, who made it, and what is the model number?

Adding memory to old systems should be just like adding it to new ones - it's just detected.

Like already mentioned simms need to go in pairs, right next to each other. You sit them in at an angle and they should click into place as you lean them upright (simms had a different kind of clip mechanism from modern dimms.)

Very few systems coudl use both EDO and SD at the same times. Often ones that could could use 3v dimms, but required 5v dimms when used when simms.

Also, many older systems had low memory limits ... are you sure your mobo will take 64 meg simms? Some were limited to smaller ones like 32 megs per.

If they are parity and your mobo doesn't support it that may be a problem too.
