How to install Quake 2 on Windows 2000?

The install program on the CD says it's not compatible with NT, though I'm sure it will be once I get it installed. Any ideas how to get around this? Or can I just copy the files across?

Just install it and it will work. Remember, this is Windows 2000, not NT. :)

Did you not try before posting this? Did it work?

No sorry you don't understand the install program will not run because it says it is incompatible with NT.

However copying the files works fine but now I can't get the mission packs to work. They come up with memory read errors. Anyone have any luck with the mission packs in 2000?

Uhh... Jonny, Windows 2000 is really NT5 since its based on the NT kernel. Are you sure you didn't install it on Windows ME which is based on the 95 kernel?

I can get Quake2 to install on W2k, but it won't run. I think I have the latest patch, also.

I don't know what's up with it.

This is unusual because I just installed Q2 on my computer which runs win2000 without any problem. Do you have service pack 1 installed? If not, install it and see if it will install.

Yep, I have SP1 installed. Using a TNT2U with the 5.22 Detonator2 drivers (highest I'll want to go with this board, DET3 actually lower performance).

I wonder if anybody else has this problem?

Do you dual boot by any chance? If so install it under your other OS if possible. I have no problems installing and running it under Windows 2000. In fact, I could even do it under NT 4. Sounds like you may have an isolated problem?

No guys, Iam 100% sure I installed it and can play it perfectly. Iam using SP1 but Iam pretty sure it worked before it too.

BTW, Windogg, I think I know the difference between Windows ME/98 and NT/Win2k. Iam hurt that you question that. *sob*
