is there any order that should be followed when installing an OS?
any trends noticed- e.g. os, drivers, office, programs, utils?
or anything of that nature??

all help is appreciated, greatly 😉

Totally agree! The more junk you install, the slower and more unstable the OS gets...

*Fresh** install, major OS upgrades ... if possible (Win2K SPs for example), drivers so you can get major OS upgrades (go back to step 2), all drivers, reapply OS patches (Yes, SP again for NT/2K), software.

I agree, and its not so much what you put on the hard drive, as what is loaded into the taskbar, if you must install, remove it from the taskbar, the extra couple of seconds to load is worth not having your computer bogged down with preloaded programs. I prefer to format the HD, checking for bad blocks, running a scandisk, then install the OS, and defragment immediately afterward. But thats how I do it, also, I slim down the software to what I really need, to keep it simple, especially on winx platforms.
