Hi ,

The BIOS on my EPoX 8RDA+ Board went last week i just got a new chip in the mail today .

I wanted to know the exact procedure to install it ?

My chip is the little EEPROM [ about half inch square chip ]

Like do i need to remove the battery first ?
do i need to put the CMOS jumper in a certain position like clear CMOS or in default or take out the jumper completely ?

I have never done this before and imn aware that i only get 1 chance at it , andf if i mess the programmed chip 'i;ll have to pay £15 and 3 days for another .:frown:

any info on this would be great .

Thanks

The battery backs up the CMOS RAM, where the BIOS stores its SETTINGS. The BIOS ROM chip is where the PROGRAM is stored. No connection to the battery there.

Still, it's a good idea to clear CMOS _after_ you've put the new chip in, simply because the BIOS in the new chip might not be too happy with the settings the old BIOS left in CMOS.

So. You unpower the board completely (not just by power button, but by turning off the PSU's switch, or, if none there, by pulling the mains plug). Then you remove the old chip and push the new one in. Clear CMOS, by jumper typically, then fire it up and see what happens.
ESD precautions apply.

I took peters advice and i got it installed .

It was a replacement chip already programmed with my borads default BIOS file.
