I have a concrete court which needs to have a basketball hoop installed.

I want to get an in-ground hoop. Never liked the portable hoops.

What's the best way to drill a hole in the concrete to install the hoop? How deep, usually? What tools?

Thx guys.

If the concrete is thick enough you could bolt it to the concrete. If it's not you could always position it outside of your concrete slab and bury it in a concrete filled hole.
I think you can rent a concrete drill at Lowe's.

If you live in a northern climate I think three feet is the standard depth. Getting below the frost line is key if you don't want it to heave up after a couple of years.

Edit:Misread your post. Maybe try renting a concrete saw and cutting a hole through your slab?

we installed one at the edge of our driveway when I was young. I think they wanted a 3 foot deep hole 6 feet in diameter for concrete. The pole you buy should have installation directions.

However, if I were to buy one for the house I eventually will own, I would probably pay the premium and get one of those water-filed base portable collapsible poles. Rust and bulging paint started happening within a couple years of installing our pole. The problem is only cosmetic, and the pole is till standing 20+ years later, but still, it's getting rather rusty and ugly.

Edit: if you need to dig a large hole to anchor it, rent a jackhammer?
