My window closes left to right not up and down like most windows. What would be the best way to install an Air Conditioner in theses types of windows? If i was to install one would it support and it would leave a big gap at the top. Not quite the same but will give you a idea.

//edit: Im on a second story floor and its hot up here so i cant take a risk of the air Conditioner falling out.
] Thanks for any repiles [

Can you buy air conditioners that dont go in the windows. I do understand i would have to empty some kind of water holder. I see on X-Man site they have theses but do they go for any lower prices.

Do you live in a dry climate or a wet one? A portable swamp cooler might work for you. Home Depot has a great selection of stuff, might be worth a trip to check it out.

With a swamp cooler you only have to fill it up, like once a day IIRC.

lol....

There is a reason the ass-end of the A/C unit hangs out the window.

The heat that the A/C extracts from the air has to go somewhere. Haven't you ever felt the exhaust air comming out of the back?

But anyway, to answer the question.. you can use a board, or we've just always used a few sheets of 4mm black plastic.

You don't want a swamp cooler. ;)

They do have room portable air conditioners though.

My old line of work.....You need t o get a piece of angle aluminum around 1/4" thick and mount the ac to the bar. Before you do that you will have to anchor the bar to the window pane with some heavy duty screws. You would probably be better off mounting the bar inside of the house rather than outside, just for ease of install, and you still should put the brackets that mount against the building on also. Next, depending on how much room you have to fill on top, I would recommend 1/2'' plywood to seal the deal. Remember a few things here: You need to make sure you install the unit with a slight pitch outward or you will have water running into your apt. Most newer a/c cases are pre slanted inside the case, but some smaller units have a shell around them and do not slide out so you have to be careful. Next get you some cheap Home Depot caulking and seal all around the wood and , if you see light, the a/c also. If you want to paint the outside of the wood to match the building,do it before you install it. Hope this helped.

Peace
