Thought I'd ask the wisdom of the collective:

Today I received my 8800GTS 640MB evga that is going to replace my 7800GT evga on my X2 4400+ Windows XP Pro PC. What is the best way to go about it? Uninstall driver nvidia drivers and then uninstall or just uninstall?? Any tips??

TIA!

Uninstall nVidia drivers, restart, run DriverCleaner on all nV instances, shut off, install 8800, start up, install latest XP drivers for 8800. Tada!

Easier than that, just grab the 8800GTS driver from nvidia.com, install the new card, then install the new drivers. I'm not sure where this whole myth got started that you need Driver Cleaner everytime you do a driver upgrade... It's just not true.

Forget driver cleaner, mofos (people who want to make a living....) made it premium now. Old versions I don't trust.

well i would use driver cleaner to completely get rid of the left behind stuff. listen to 40xtheme, he's exactly right and thats how i do it and how i will do it in a few days with my own 8800GTS...320MB though.

I run an old version of DC and it helped me through my recent installation of a 7950GT. I had simply done add/remove programs for my old ATi stuff, but when I started it up I got a BSOD from the nv4_disp.dll or whatever that one thing is named and I ran DC as suggested by some and then reinstalled the nVidia drivers and the problem was fixed.
