How to improve HOPS?

So I have pretty strong legs, which comes from a few years of cross country. I can leg press near 700 lb., but I jump like an old man. What kinds of excercises can I do to allow me to dunk?

How is your step on the way to the hoop? Do you have it timed right? That is a huge part of the struggle.

I am 5'9" with my timing down and I can grab rim.

I'm 5'9" too, and no matter how many times I try I'm always a few inches shy of the rim..

White boys unite!😀

You should look into ankle weights and get a jump-rope. There is one exercise that I used to do, you have to get something that is strong enough so you can land on and tall enough so you can jump ontop of it. You basicly keep jumping on and off the thing, you can put on the ankle weights if it gets too easy. You can make a little hopsticle course with objects of varying heights in a row too.

How tall of a rim are we talking about?

I am referring to a 10ft regulation hoop.

Try those shoes with the elevated soles. My friend used them and he gained like 6" on his vert.

... you mean 6" platform shoes? those would leave a nasty broken ankle. theres no way someone gains more than an inch or so in vertical from shoes alone. unless he originally wore flip flops.

I think he is referring to the shoes where there is no heel support, with all your weight constantly on the balls of your feet.

It's called the air alert 2 program. I used to think you couldn't improve your vertical too but that was until I saw a kid that could jump 28 and not be able to dunk now jump 36 and be able to dunk. He added 8 inches in like 6 weeks. I tried to get a copy of it but was never able to get the chart of exercises he did...

I too am 5'9" and can grab rim...but I haven't tried any programs yet...

plyometrics are very good...can be tough on the knees tho.

I can't jump either but I compensate by good timing and anticipation.
