So, i finally the got dsl turned on from verizon. We got it all hooked up and the speed is really really slow. I go to dsl reports and do the speed test. I am consistently getting around 97kbps down and 137 kbps up. YES that is correct. My upload is higher than my pathetic download speed.

I called verizon and they said the line is fine; so does any one have any possible remedies? I will move it to another jack tomorrow. The verizon guy said use a phone cable > 14ft which i am and to not split the line. I took the splitter off so there's just the cable modem using the jack and no phone. That didn't work

Anyone ever experience such a thing and if so, how did you fix it

edit : numerous spelling errors

Google for Flashget. Pick any site and download with 6 streams. And report your speeds.

What is your indication that it is 97Kb/sec. Since the right number for Verizon would be about 97KB/sec.

What do you mean Jack? I get about 1300kbs with verizon. I also am about <5000 ft from the CO.

Most of Verizon Entry Level accounts are around 700-900Kb/sec. and areas with high ISP competition, or where there is brand new infrastructure installation they might offer 1.5Mb/sec. for the same price. :light:

Download DrTCP: <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.dslre
ports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe">http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe</a>

Run the program, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Start with:

MaxMTU - for DSL =1492 Cable=1500 DialUp=576

Tcp Receive - 255552

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

Notice it said above Start with

These settings are not written in "stone" there is variability depending on the computer other setting. So try few setting and measure your Download for each setting.

In addition, in case a person has a Router the Router's MTU if set differently can affect the general MTU.
