How to improve DAB (wavefinder) reception?

I've got a new Psion wavefinder, and it's a very cool device - I particularly love the fact that you can listen to one radio station, while recording others (up to 8 others in my area) at the same time. [Note, not with Psion's bundled software which is utter s**te, but with some easily obtainable, and cheap shareware].

Sound quality is very good, but the catch is reception is dodgy at best, and supposedly I'm in the middle of an 'excellent' reception area, about 30 miles from a major transmitter. Unfortuantely, unlike FM and AM, DAB seems to be very fussy, and quite unexpectedly, the sound will just stop, or will degenerate into an alarming mixture of funny digital noises. What's more is that reception seems to be positional, but it's never the same position from day to day.

Right now, it's working but it's leaning against a chair in the middle of my bedroom, whereas last night, I had to hang it out of the window.

Am I going to need an external aerial? - if so, is the psion one any good, or should I just get a proper DAB aerial, and stick it in the loft?

What, no one has a wavefinder?

This is one of the coolest peripherals I've bought recently - when it works it's fantastic. The trouble is that it really needs better reception.

It's an awesome source of music, chat, readings and radio plays in MP3 (well, MP2) format.
