How to improve attention span?

I think I had ADD or something, if I'm not interested in something..such as a book or a prof's lecture, my mind just drifts off every 20 seconds.

Is there anything I can do to improve my ability to concentrate on something?

And please, a reply of "What's that, I lost you?" would not be funny at all.

I too have a short attention span,I've found that waving money at me helps considerably with that problem🙂

First off, how old are you?

19. Back in high school I would never be able to read most of the books that were assigned in English..and actually managed to get mostly B's in those classes.

And it's not as if I didn't work on my reading. I would read what I enjoyed for several hours a day just about everyday, and that would often include long novels. However, unless I REALLY tried and was motivated to read one of those "English class" type books I wouldn't be able to read more than a page or two before drifiting off.

- Get more sleep. If you're getting 6-7 hours of sleep a night, try getting 7-9 hours. Go to bed earlier.

- I would say to get tested by a psychiatrist for ADD or ADHD or some variant, but IMO the testing is a sham; they mark EVERYONE as ADD, which is why so many damned kids are doped up on meds these days.

I would say, based on experience, that attention span also comes with maturity...when Skoorb was 19, he could simply not sit through an entire class without squirming to the point of him wanting to scream. Now, he can easily spend a whole day in a seminar without any problems. Over the years, he gained self discipline and maturity. Don't overreact and immediately think ADD, ADHD which are all over diagnosed these days anyhow. Get plenty of sleep and force, yes force, yourself to simply pay attention. If you have to, write down every word he is saying....exercises like that help! 🙂

Two things you can immediately start to change, IMO:

1. The amount of sleep you get a night. 7 is a good number. Too much sleep is bad, too little sleep is bad too.
2. Your physical condition. The better shape your body is in, the better you'll be able to settle down. Occasionally I use weights before showering and then settle down to study...works great!

I agree, I had the same problem all through college. It makes it tough. When reading books, I would take notes while I'm reading and I also recorded professor's lectures to go over again afterwards. I find that the more I started using the internet and playing games the worse my attention span got. So try cutting back on those. Either that or start using drugs. 😛

See you now the answer, you have to try and be motivated.

You dont have a problem with your attention span its just you find school stuff not boaring and not fun, well get used to it alot of your life wont be fun but you have to plug away.
