I built my system about 20 months ago, and I'd like to speed her up abit -- cheaply of course. My current setup is an AMD 600 classic on a K7M board -- not oc'ed at all. I have 768 MB of PC133 memory and a 40GB, 7200 RPM HD.
Through the BIOS, I can up the FSB from 100 to 110, and have the CPU run at 660 (or is it 666) MHz with rock-solid stability, but I want more. Please keep in mind that I do not know a whole lot about overclocking a PC.
So the question is, if I go out and get a new processer (slot A T-Bird), which one should I get? I 1GB T-Birds are nearly impossible to find in a slot a form factor, and are very expensive.
Here's what I've been able to find (before shipping):
650 Slot A TBird -- $29
700 Slot A TBird -- $34
750 Slot A TBird -- $56
800 Slot A TBird -- $61
850 Slot A TBird -- $78
900 Slot A TBird -- $92
950 Slot A TBird -- $99
I have heard that 750s (and up) can actually have 900 cores in them, but don't know for sure. Which one of these will overclock the most in terms of both percentage increase and over MHz. Help me get the most bang for my buck!
