Ok so i bought that 120 deal for A64 3400 compaq just for the processor i know its a 754 but i do not know what type it is. I will be taking it out and cleaning it to get the model number Amd340064XO or what ever the number is?

How can i tell what all thoese number/letter combos mean? Any links?

I have seen it a couple times but can not find it now i know some of it means manfactor date as well as line but how to tell what type ?

If it's 754, that means its either Newcastle or Clawhammer. If it runs at 2.4GHz w/512K cache, it's a Newcastle. If it's 2.2GHz w/ 1024K cache it's a Clawhammer. Do a Google search for a program called CPU-Z that will give you the run-downj on your chip.
