How to identify IBM disks and what types are the bad ones?

A coworker brought her computer in for work today and I'm suupposed to set the os up again, but I now see its WindowsXP, expected an old Win2k or Win98 install. I noticed two things, started the computer, chkdsk ran automaticly and then that it has an ibm disk.

I'v been looking at the label on the disk and dont realy know what to look for.

this is a 75gxp it seems,
DTLA-307030 30.73 GB ATA/100 7200 R

how likely is it that it would fail... or result in performance loss on the computer?

Its my understanding that the failures are due to one of the chips failing due to heat. You might want to look at her hard disk, its location in the case, and air circulation around with this in mind; maybe mount a small fan to move air under the drive or move the drive to a bay that would be more in the airstream. I'm using a couple of IBM drives, a 60GXP and a 120GXP, and they perform well. They're quick and much quieter than a new Maxtor that I have in another box.
