Alright, I'm about to get an XP 2400+ processor, and I want to make sure I get one with a Thorton core. How does a Thorton look compared to a Thoroughbred?

It looks extra-specially rectangular. Since it's based on the Barton core, it will look like Anand's pic here, which is next to a Tbred for comparison.

Hmmm, they look pretty damn similar. I take it the Thorton is the one on the right, right?

The Thorton has the longer core, and looks identical to a Barton - the only difference is that 1/2 the cache is disabled.

He said it. That's the biggest difference: the L2 Cache. See it as a Barton in XP's clothing.
