Hey guys, I'm going to be building a new computer shortly, and I was wondering how one should go about hooking up RAID correctly? I have read about RAID, but I'm unsure of the specifics. I'm looking at getting an Abit KR-7A-R motherboard. I'm fairly new to RAID, so this is why I'm asking about it. I'd appreciate any input you guys might have. Thanks.

you are using built in raid so you only have 2 choises!!
1 raid 0 this means 2,3,4 drives connected together and striped 1/2 of info on one drive 1/2 info on the other or in the case of 3 drives 1/3 et al basicly this is suposed to mean 2 drives are twice as fast as one and 3, 3times as fast as 1. but 4 isnt 4 times as fast (dont ask why)
if you are confortable with formating and instaling your own software then setting up this kind or raid will be just fine. and VERRY fast
raid 1 means 2 drives become one with a image. so 2 20 gig units is only 20 gigs BUT if the main drive fails then you just remove it and reset and all your info is still there.
as far as i knoe NO motherboard has built in raid 3 or 5 so dont wory about that.
raid 1+0 on ide prety much defetes the purpos so dont worry about it.
hope that helps
if you have a more specifis question feel free to ask but use aol instant mesanger or msn mesanger.
user id hinderson for both

The first question you have to ask yourself is what is your motivation for RAID. Do you want RAID for sequential data performance (RAID 0) or Redundancy (tolerance of a drive failure) (RAID 1). In IDE configs I would limit the config to two drives to avoid some of the limitations of the IDE interface. Enjoy.
