someone please help me on the terminology. don't wanna sound like an idiot when i check out bestbuy or sam ash.
the guitar cords are big, while the connectors on my sound card are small. i think there is an adapter to connect the bigger guitar cords to my sound card.
what is this adapter called?? and also, i plug it into my soundcards "line in" right?? or "mic in"??

i have an audigy 1.

i wanna do this so that i could record my awesome playing onto my computer.

these are rca cables

but its too big for my soundcard. guitar cables are bigger than rca cables. not the same thing. whats a live wire?

on your eletric guitar is the 1/8" headphone jack,
go to rat shack buy a mini cable and a mini to headphone jack adapter.
However, I don't think the sound will be audible.
I think You will need a preamp.

What if he plugs it into his Mic rather than Line in?

You need a 1/4 to 1/8 adaptor and you plug into the line in on the soundcard. Then you just need software to either record or give you effects,I use this software here for getting different sounds.

Try using advanced sound recorder:

You can configure the program to record from either the line in or mic inputs.

thats a pretty good program . it works, thanks. too bad it only records for 40 seconds. its gonna cost 30 bucks. did you buy it?? i think i will.

If you can't record the line-in then something is just misconfigured. Creative also supplies recording software (in addition to the Windows one). I'm sure there must be several other freebies out there.

Get Cooledit. Either Pro or 2000 (less expensive).

I'm a professional bassist and find it very easy to use. Good multitracking, very powerful editing. You can even edit video into the multitracks.
