Hey all,

I've got a LAN party coming up on tuesday. Right now I have a netgear wireless wgr614v4 hooked up to the cable internet. In my desk drawer, i've got a linksys router (don't know model, old standard blue and black one) that I want to hook up to the netgear so we can have enough slots for everyone.

We'll have about 9 computers at my place starting monday, so i'd like to make sure everything works and not have to turn everyone away.

Basically, I just need to know what to do to connect these. My guess was to just send a cable from the Netgear into the uplink on the Linksys.

Any suggestions or help would be GREATLY appreciated (and game suggestions!)

Thanks,
Adam

Hook up the linksys to a computer and turn off dhcp so effectively you turn the router into a switch and allow the netgear to do the routing. Hook up the cable and you should be good to go. You might need to use a crossover cable but I doubt it.

just use a normal patch cable between the WAN port of the seccond router and a normal port on the first one (plus turning of DHCP and NAT on the second one).

I've done the method I just mentioned and it works fine. All machines are dished out IP addresses from the first router, so it's still one network.

It depends on the make. Some routers when used as Switches require you to NOT use the WAN/Uplink port while other require you DO use that port. Have to check themanual for that specific model (or others from the same brand) to find out it's specifics.
