how to hook mp3 player up to car stereo

i want to play my mp3 player through my car audio system. is there a good, cheap way to do this?

Does your car head unit have an Aux input? If so you can purchase a wire to hook it up. If it has a cassette player they have tape adapters you can get for that also. If you have neither of those, I know you have a FM radio so you can get a FM modulator and broadcast it to a certain station.

it has a tape player. i was looking at those tape adapters. is there anything i should be careful about before buying one?

Been a while since I used a tape adapter. I now use a Belkin FM adapter. Sounds better than my old POS tape adapter, plus you can use it in anywhere and not have plug anything in to the audio system. Its perfect for the gfs house, a quick demo somewhere etc. Nice for notebooks to cuz you can move around.

I know other manufactures make things like that but I can only say I like the Belkin, uses a couple AAA batts and has about a 6 - 10 foot range.

No matter how little you pay for it, anything Belkin is seldom a good buy. Almost any of the ones from geeks.com would be a better deal. But the geeks tends to charge high shipping so it's a good idea to try to find enough stuff to buy there that you can eat up the full weight for the shipping bracket.

Ill probably get another one as I gave mine to the gf. Do you have anything other than Belkin in mind or are you just saying theyre overpriced in general? Quality is more a factor then price so Im not worried on that point.

Im happy with mine and the mobility factor was the main concern so I had to go wireless.

I think it was like $20 at Wallmart about 9 months ago.

ok thanks, i think i found one. what do you think? link

That looks pretty good.

I bought a 10 foot, 1/8" stereo extension cable so at friends houses even if the stereo is out of normal range you just plug in that.

They say 30 feet and that might be true, but take it with a grain of salt. I could put mine anywhere in the car and it was fine. And its a big car with rear fender mounted antenna.

Short of getting to indepth, your best bet is by way of line level inputs if you have no jacks...at least when I use to install audio equipment for a living. The FM Modulators will on give you the response of FM transmission (30-15K Hz and maybe 65 DB's) and the Cassette will do the same as their playback...compared to MP3's you'll be missing alot of quality sound if you have a decent system...
