How to hold a job and also interview secretly?

How do you do that? It's not very wise to take off every other week for an interview, and not a good idea to jeopradize your current job for a job you don't have. So how do you do it?

"Take off every other week for an interview?"

Do you mean, like, take the WHOLE week off? Where the hell are you interviewing? Mars?

I assume you really mean "take off a few hours, once a week" right? If you have personal/annual time on the books, it shouldn't be a problem. It's not anybody's business WHY you took 4 hours last Thursday or 2 hours this morning.

Of course, people will assume and guess; that is their problem, though. Just keep your mouth shut and tell no one anything.

Pick interviews carefully, and tell your work it's a doctor's appointment. They can't legally ask about medical conditions although they may do it anyway so you better have a prepared statement or condition that will make them not ask you.

Yeah I meant taking 3-4 hours off every other week, that is if you are getting a lot of interviews. But when bosses get suspicious, then there is trouble. I don't get personal time 🙁

I just take off half a day (come in at 12 or so). Tell them you have something personal to do in the morning.

Well, there's "respectfully lying" and then there's "being an ass about it." (not saying you are...just thinking out loud 🙂)

You will tell your overly suspicious boss "oh I just had a medical appt/oh I just had to return a library book" with a smile on your face. You say "yes, Sir" and do you job. He knows you're lying, but you're doing it the right way. It is the way of the world.

We all always want something better than what we have, and there's nothing wrong with that at all! It's the nature of the beast. Maybe he'll say "look...whatever you're looking for, we can talk about it." Or maybe he'll say "harrumph!". Whatever. Either way, you need to do for YOU. B/C if you don't, who will do it for you?

Thats what I've always done.

Me too. My last switch I had a sveral hour interview in another state, a couple hours flight away. So I said I had a doctor's appointment, flew out immediately after work one day, interviewed the next, and was home a bit past dinnertime. Funny thing that job change, only one resume sent out, only one interview and got the job.
