How to help my friend who wants to surf the net while making road trips?

A friend of the family came to me today and wanted some "consultation"... He bets on racehorses... and he wants to do so while on roadtrips {his job requires him to be in a car for most of the day, for long periods of time}. He says he doesn't want to spend more than $500... So what would you all suggest I reccomend to him?

Some counseling at the Gamblers Anonymous.

I agree lol

Is he near places with 802.11b hotspots?

I'd have no idea - he drives people home from hospitals in the Midwest united states so he is going to be all over the place. Would there likely be 802.11b hotspots near hospitals?

a sanyo or samsung sprint phone, an unlimited vision plan, and a USB data cable (those you have to get off ebay)

That was exactly what I was about to suggest.

We use a wireless card for that. Its from AT&T called Sierra Wireless or something. I have no clue how much we pay or how it exactly works but its very useful. Not really useful for us, but actually very neat. Wherever we go places, we take our tablet PC and the card, surf the net, play games, etc. You may want to check up on that card.

Damn, when you look at the coverage map.. there isn't really much coverage, at least compared to the ammount of land. :Q

Yeah, is he the passenger or something? I don't want to be driving next to someone that's busy gambling online!

lol He makes a lot of stops which give him like at least 15 minutes free time, in which he chooses to gamble and lose money... oh well.

If theres's T-Mobile coverage where he travles I'd suggest a new color Danger unit. He can get unlimited data/surfing plan for like $20 a month.

I have a sidekick from t-mobile, and it works pretty good. I'm not sure if it works with online betting though..
