how to have URL point to DHCP assigned IP

All,

I was shown awhile back of a program that can be run on a computer, and it will detect when the IP address (assigned via DHCP from ISP) changes, and when a user goes to www.abc.com, it will know to redirect to new IP address.... any help is appreciated.

i know of no program that does this automatically but there IS something called DNS service which basically allows for a webpage to be hosted on a dynamic ip (i assume thats what you want not ACTUALLY www.abc.com which is ABC's website haha)

its about the same price as a site hosting service, so not too bad

if you think there IS such a program that DOES NOT require DNS please im interested to know as well

use dyndns.org they have some tools that check every so often your ip and make sure its pointing to the right place..

I had a similar situation awhile back, I wanted to host my own site but my ISP was DHCP.

After many calls and surfing all over for an answer, I finally found out that my ISP offered a 'NAT' (network address translation) name. At the time, my NAT was namuna.att.net (or something like that).

No matter what my IP changed to, the NAT name was always updated (by the ISP) to reflect the new IP (but sometimes it could take them up to 24hours to update).

Then when I found a Name host (for www.LincolnsWorld.com) I had to make sure they offered address forwarding...instead of LincolnWorld going to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, it had to go to namuna.att.net

Using both of these to point to my box... runs a client on my box and changes dynamically....
Will work for WWW, FTP, and e-mail servers.
