Since I don't have DSL anymore (I'm on dialup for now! BLECK!) I would like to be able to have an "Away" message in AIM so people know where I am, but without having to be online. Does anyone know of a service that allows you to do this? Thanks

I don't think that is possible, you have to be connected to AOL server, and how is that possible when you aren't connected?

Closet thing you're going to get is AOL mobile or something. I use it. Just set it up to text your cell phone if you get an IM .. you don't get to put up an away message, but your screen name will NEVER not be in someone's buddylist. :) Only charges you incur are the text charges your cell carrier may have.

An alternative to let people know where you are might be to setup a free website at geocities and post your whereabouts there.

With the text messaging to the phone, he wouldn't be able to put up an away msg but people would be able to im you.

I don't want to be text messaged, I just want an away message. I was just wondering if someone had a server setup that you could give your IM name and PW and then log in from there, and then have the away message set. Then when you log on to your IM it would automatically log you off from the "online server". I thought I had seen a Perl script that did this a while ago but I can't seem to find it.
