So I accepted a 6 month contract offer from Company A today.

I also had a preliminary phone interview with Company B (direct hire) who was willing to schedule a follow up technical interview after the phone interview was completed.

I learned of Company A's offer after the preliminary phone interview with Company B.

I also received a call from Company C (direct hire) that wanted to schedule an in-person interview. I haven't interviewed with Company C previously at all. Just sent them a resume and cover letter.

I ended up emailing Company B that I accepted an offer but was interested in continuing to explore the opportunity 5 to 6 months from now if they still had a need for the position.

I told Company C that I was open to the interview opportunity but that I would likely stay committed to the job offer with Company A. Company C decided to not schedule an interview.

The start date with Company A is June 4. I don't know the interview process length and hiring decision timing of Company B & C.

Opinions on how to approach this?

Thank them for their consideration, but explain you accepted an offer somewhere else. I'm sure they're used to it, but simple courtesy helps prevent bridges from being burned.

I don't think they're going to put their vacancies on hold for you to complete your current job, if that's what you were wondering.

I guess I worded it poorly, but I'm not expecting them to do that

I just wanted to see if it was ok for me to follow up with Company B and see if they happened to have the position open 5 to 6 months from now either due to a person leaving, getting promoted, or to increase their workforce

If you are interested in B or C, ping them 5 months from now to see if they are interested in your skills.

Inform companies B and C that you accepted a contract opportunity so while you are exceedingly enthusiastic about the opportunities their companies present, your earliest potential start date is X. Ask if they would be amenable to you reaching out to them to follow up about possible openings at that point.

Advantage to the last part is that they're giving you an opening to contact them, continuing a prior conversation, rather than passively waiting for them to contact you.
