How to handle e-bay and a FedEx claim?

It looks like for the first time FedEx has lost a package on me. It was a $200 item sold on e-bay that was apparently stolen from the truck. It was insured. Is the normal course of action to refund the buyer through Paypal right after a claim is filed?

um, hello? That doesn't answer the question at all.

He obviously didn't read the post, just the thread title.

Anyway, it can go either way. If you want to be super cautious, wait till your claim goes through, then refund. If you feel the buyer should get his money first, then go ahead and refund and just take the hit for now while you wait for your claim. The latter will definitely make the customer happy, but you have to sacrifice of course.

Thanks. The buyer is obviously wanting to get the refund so he can buy a new one. It isn't really a problem for me financially. From what FedEx says, it will be a week for them to mail me the forms, a week for them to receive them, and so on.

Oddly, it STILL doesn't say anything in the tracking about how the item was stolen from the truck (or that it is not going to be delievered).
