Responded to a craigslist ad, lister claims he is selling the vehicle for a friend out of state.

Says he doesn't want to transfer title to his name because he will have to pay taxes (true).

Says he would drive to the owners residence to pick up the signed title/bill of sale and even come with me to the DMV to register the vehicle.

Vehicle currently unregistered (no plates).

What does ATOT think, scam?

it COULD be legit but craigslist plus "selling for friend out of state" my money is on you're about to get scammed.

How much $$$ is involved in this transaction? Is the title signed by the owner? Have you checked out the car?

He is trying to play games... my experience tells me he is trying t wash a title... maybe bought the car and is trying to flip it with an open title to avoid the tax. Run the Vin see what's what. There is more going on other than selling a car for a friend

Yeah, proceed with caution and cover your ass if you're going to try to go through with the purchase.
