How to go from dual to single boot? (W2000+XP)

I installed Windows 2000 first on drive C and later installed Windows XP on drive D.

I have already deleted Windows 2000 and edited the entry out of the boot.ini file, but my system still needs to boot from drive C in order to start XP.

I would like to have it be able to boot directly from drive D. I guess I need to copy the boot record or something in order to do this. I have tried copying the startup files (boot.ini, io.sys, ntdetect.com, ntldr, etc.) from C to D, but that doesn't work.

I had something similiar working back when Windows 95/98 was popular.

Had Windows 95 mainly for corel suite and Windows 98 for everything else.

I remember you need to have only one active partition at a time.

Can't remember much else. It has been too long.

I guess Partition Magic could deal whit this.

Also

You have many options:

1) transfer partition D to C.

2) Making partition D bootable. This depend on the size of parttition C and your motherboard capabilities.
On both cases after that you have to transfer the starup files. This is not as simple as copy paste, because some of this files need to be in a specific position of your hard drive.

3) The easy long way, install XP again, this time on partition C.
